OAKLAND PARK -- A 24-year old resident who ran into the path of a car on Tuesday afternoon has died of her injuries, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
According to Hugh Graf, BSO spokesman, the incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday while Rosa Joya was trying to cross Dixie Highway just north of Northeast 45th Street. She made it across the southbound lanes of Dixie, but as she moved into the northbound lanes she crossed the path of a 1988 Cadillac Sedan DeVille driven by Thomas Williams, 58, of Pompano Beach.
Joya collided with the left, front fender of the Cadillac, Graf said. The impact threw her onto the vehicle's windshield. According to a witness, traffic at the time was heavy and moving at 30-35 mph.
She suffered severe head injuries and Oakland Park Fire-Rescue paramedics rushed her to Broward General Medical Center, Graf said.
The driver of the Cadillac was not injured and was not charged.
Joya, who lived several blocks from the accident, never regained consciousness. She was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.
The investigation continues.
